Micheal Gurnell has photographed scenic landscape images since his college days at Idaho State University. During the past forty years Micheal has pursued many occupations, including: Counselor, Recreation Therapist, Military Police Investigator, Game Warden, Building Products Representative, and Medical Device Consultant. In 2003 Micheal retired from Cook Incorporated after twenty years to pursue his passion, photography.
Micheal's works are prominently displayed in many of the guest rooms and spaces of the French Lick Resort Properties in French Lick, Indiana, in Health Care Facilities as Healing Art Images, and in many corporate and private spaces. Micheal says thank you to Mr. Cook for his mentor ship through the years and to every one who has purchased, and supported his work, past, and present.
In June of 2007, during the early stage of construction of the new Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort, Micheal was introduced to Pete Dye by Chris Lutzke. Little did he know that this meeting would be the beginning of a photographic project beyond his imagination. With a hand shake, and a gentleman's agreement, Micheal was given the opportunity to work with the "most prominent golf course designer of our day." It is believed that he is the only photographer to ever stay on site and document the entire construction phase of a Pete Dye Course. As a Scenic Landscape Photographer, Micheal has compiled a unique collection of before, during, and after images of The Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort. Pete considers this course to be the "best inland course that he has worked on." The Pete Dye Course opened in April, 2009. In December of 2009, Golf Digest honored "The Course" by selecting it as the "Best New Public Course" in the Country. It is the Host Site for The 2010 PGA PROFESSIONAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. Micheal and Pete will release a book in late spring 2010, titled, "The Course".
ARTIST STATEMENT - "It is a wonderful feeling to watch the earth live; to feel its senses, and to anticipate its moods. Every moment in time is a new beginning as the elements work their wonder interacting with each other to create constant change. The camera allows me to freeze an instant in time. Often I see such beauty, that I wish others could see through my eyes. The ultimate exposure is to share the vision. The power of vision has the ability to heal the soul, and soften the heart."
Micheal has produced stunning images of American Landscapes, and parts of Africa. He strives to provide images with such realism that you feel a sense of being there, or perhaps they will create a desire to travel there. Thank you for visiting with us on this site.
